How can we help?
Getting started
What do I need to run FlipTurn?
A Mac with Apple silicon running macOS 15 Sequoia or later. Intel Macs are not supported.
What can I import?
PDFs, and JPEG or PNG images. For a PDF you can import every page or a range such as 1, 3, 5–8. You can mix PDFs and images in one book.
Do I need an account or an internet connection?
No. Everything happens on your Mac. You only need a connection to upload the export to your host.
Is FlipTurn free?
Yes, FlipTurn is free at launch. Books you export keep working whatever happens to the app’s price.
Publishing
Where can I host a publication?
Any web hosting that serves static files over HTTPS — the hosting of the website you already have usually works. No database or server code is needed, and both a domain root and a subfolder work.
The frame on my website stays empty.
A security rule is blocking it. Check the website for a Content-Security-Policy with frame-src, child-src or default-src, and add the publication’s address. Check the host of the publication for X-Frame-Options or a frame-ancestors rule, and allow the website. The browser console names the rule. If you cannot change it, link to the publication instead.
Can I open index.html straight from Finder?
Sometimes, but browsers restrict pages opened from disk, so it is not guaranteed. Check an export with the preview in FlipTurn, which serves it the way a web host does, or from your uploaded copy.
How do I publish a new edition?
Open the project, make your changes and export to the same folder. FlipTurn asks before replacing the old export. Upload all the new files over the old ones — do not mix files from two exports. An embed at the same address keeps working.
Can I use it for client work?
Yes. Exports are yours to host and distribute, including commercially, with no attribution required. Keep NOTICES.txt with the reader.
Reading
Search finds nothing in my publication.
Scanned PDFs and books made from images have no text, and FlipTurn does not perform OCR. The reader says search is unavailable rather than showing an empty search box. The import report tells you whether text was found.
Which browsers are supported?
The two newest major versions of Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Edge on desktop, Safari on iOS and Chrome on Android, at the date of the FlipTurn release that made the export.
Fullscreen does nothing on my site.
The snippet needs allow="fullscreen" and allowfullscreen, and the site must not withhold fullscreen with a Permissions-Policy header. When fullscreen is blocked, the reader offers to open the publication in a new tab.
Will my books stop working if I delete the app?
No. A publication is ordinary files on your host and never contacts FlipTurn.
